Start Menu

Some of the items on the Start menu have a triangle pointing to the right.   When you see a black triangle it means there is more to see. Practice moving the arrow up and down the Start menu stopping at the triangles. Stop. Look. Move on.   After you are comfortable stopping and looking move the mouse arrow right to the next list. This is called cascading menus.
