Practical Exercise
- Open My Computer
- Resize the window to 1/4th or less of the
screen.
- View as details
- Drag the My Computer window to the upper right corner of the
desktop.
- Open the (C) drive. View as list.
- Resize the (C) drive window to 1/4 the size of the
screen.
- Drag the (C) drive window to the upper right corner of the
desktop.
- From File create a new folder. Name it your first name.
- Open that folder. Resize it to take up less than
1/4th of the screen. View as list.
- Close all windows except your folder.
- STOP and wait quietly until told to proceed.

- From the START button (bottom left on the task bar) open
Notepad (or Wordpad. Either is OK). You get an untitled typeable
screen.
- Type your first and last name. Leave the typeface/font as it
is. Nonstandard will slow the printer.
- On the next line type "MO 101".
- On the next line type "practical exercise".
- Under File select Save As and navigate to your folder. Name
the file your last name.
- Minimize Notepad/Wordpad. View your folder as details. Read
the size of your file.
- Click Notepad in the taskbar at the bottom of the
desktop.
- On the next line type the size of your Notepad file (followed
by the letter K.
- Save (not Save As)
- Minimize Notepad.
- Stop until told to proceed.

- Open My Computer. Resize window. View as details. Read size of
(C) drive.
- Return to Notepad. Type that figure on the next line. Minimize
Notepad.
- Select the My Computer window. Select the (C) drive. Right
click. Choose Properties.
- Read Free space. Enter on next line in Notepad.
- Close (C) Properties window.
- Select the window titled by your name.
- Select your document (titled by your last name)
- Under Edit select Copy (ctrl + C)
- Within your folder create a new folder named Elvis
- Open the Elvis folder then under Edit select Paste (ctrl + P).
Wait for the document to appear in Elvis.
- Right click your document in Elvis and select Rename.
- Type new name as your first and last name
- Stop until told to proceed.

- Select the file in Elvis called your first and last name.
Right click. Select Make Shortcut. A shortcut appears in
Elvis.
- Drag the shortcut to the desktop.
- Close all windows.
- Double click the shortcut to your document.
- Under File select Print Setup.
- Select Portrait. Close window.
- Under File select Print
- Select from page 1 to 1. Select 2 copies.
- Click Print.
- Close Notepad/Wordpad (if you changed something you will be
asked to Save. Click Yes.
- Navigate from My Computer to your folder. Drag your folder to
the trash. (Click Yes.)
- Close all windows.
- Drag the shortcut to your file to the trash. (Click Yes.)
- Open the trash.
- Get the teachers attention. (He will look then tell you
to Empty.)
- Close all windows.
